Dimraeth Co-op Guide: 8 Players, No Split-Screen
Co-op is the feature Dimraeth leads with — “1-8 player” is in the store tagline. Here is precisely what that means, and the three limits people keep running into.
The shape of it
- 1 to 8 players, seamless drop-in and drop-out
- Peer-to-peer: one player acts as host when you start a game with friends
- No dedicated or private servers — confirmed in the official FAQ
- No matchmaking: co-op is with people you invite. A player asked for matchmaking on the forum (“not everyone has a lot of friends”) and got no commitment
- Not an MMO, and not a live service game. A developer stated both directly
- Solo works start to finish, with a single-player offline mode
What carries between worlds — and what doesn’t
This is the rule that decides whether joining a friend’s game “wastes” your evening. Mudtek states it in the store description:
Travels with your hero: level, equipment, inventory, spells, personal progression.
Stays with the world: story progress, recruited allies, buildings.
So playing in someone else’s Mirkea advances your character but not your own campaign or your own stronghold. If you and a friend both want the story, you either take turns hosting or accept that one of you is replaying it later.
Why there is no split-screen
Players have asked repeatedly, and the answer has been consistent. A developer’s reply: split-screen and couch co-op are “on our radar as something in the future”, but “lower priority”, and “it’ll take some time if we do decide to go down that road”.
That is a maybe, not a plan. The isometric camera makes it plausible — a player argued exactly that in the request thread — but nothing has been promised.
Difficulty and party size
Early Access ships with Easy and Hard modes, confirmed by a developer answering a player who did not want souls-like difficulty. What has not been published is whether encounters scale with party count. Nothing in any Mudtek post addresses it, so treat eight-player runs as an unknown quantity rather than assuming either scaling or a free ride.
Playing with strangers
Since there is no matchmaking, the official Discord is the mechanism. Mudtek points players at the #looking-for-group channel for co-op partners, quick sessions and full parties for boss fights. The links page has the invite.
