Dimraeth Getting Started Guide: Fix the Demo's Stuck Points
Three specific moments in the Dimraeth opening produced more “I quit” posts than anything else in the demo. None of them are hard. All three are places where the tutorial prompt says what to achieve without saying what to press. Here is each one with the answer a Mudtek developer actually gave on the Steam forum.
1. “Build a tent” — you dismantle, you don’t build
This is the single most common quit point. An NPC asks you to build a tent, you open the build menu, you don’t have the materials, and nothing in the interface tells you where they come from.
The answer, from a Mudtek developer replying to exactly this thread:
- Open the build menu with B
- Hover over one of the tents already standing around you
- Hold SPACE to dismantle it
Dismantling returns the materials the quest wants. The developer added that the tutorial prompt in the top left should be spelling this out, and asked players to report it as a bug if it doesn’t appear.
Players in that thread were blunt about the wording: “The quest should say dismantle the surrounding tents.” If you went hunting for wood in the forest, you were not being slow — you were reading the prompt the way it was written.
2. “Craft water” — it comes from slime
The second wall. There is no well, no river prompt, and nothing in the crafting menu called water.
What works: pick up slime, put it in a crafting table slot, and craft. Water is the output.
The complication is that this only works at a station. If you open the crafting menu on its own it will tell you to use a crafting station, which reads like a refusal rather than an instruction. Walk to the table first.
3. The campfire cook that “does nothing”
You have the campfire, you have the ingredients, you click the recipe, nothing happens.
A player who worked it out posted the fix in two words: shift-clicking is your friend. Shift-click moves the ingredients into the station’s slots. Dragging them in and clicking the recipe tab does not.
Once that clicks, the full recipe list is small enough to learn quickly — eight cooking recipes, and meals restore hunger and grant buffs, so this is not an optional system.
While you are here: two things that are not bugs
The chest has no recipe. Players hunted for one; the build menu unlocks by progression, not by discovery. A developer confirmed it: the chest appears under furniture once you have progressed far enough, and it costs pinewood planks and stone nails.
The Woodfire Stove is not craftable either. It is a drop from any chest in the wildwoof forest, at a 3 percent chance. The developer’s own words: “unintentionally much rarer than it should be” in the demo.
What to do with your first hour
- Pick your pairing with the attribute curve in mind. Your race and class set the scaling cost of your attributes, which decides which spellbooks you can afford later.
- Dismantle before you gather. The opening area is full of structures that convert into materials.
- Cook before you leave the village. Meals grant buffs, not just hunger relief.
- Treat stamina as a second health bar. Parry channels and costs stamina; if stamina breaks, the remaining damage lands on your health instead.
- Read the top-left prompt, but do not trust it to name the verb. That is the pattern behind all three walls above.
Does this still apply at Early Access?
Partly. The demo closed on 15 July 2026 and Mudtek said explicitly that it had drifted “so out of sync” with the Early Access build that a re-release would need rebuilding. The 2 September content list includes “many quality of life improvements”, and a developer replying to a long demo write-up said “many things you’ve outlined here are being reworked/modified already — especially the QoL stuff”.
So expect the tutorial wording to change. The underlying systems — dismantling for materials, station-gated crafting, shift-click transfers — are the same systems shipping on 15 September.
Thanks for the feedback!
